Vimes's grin was as funny as the one that moves very fast towards drowning men.
Everyone's guilty of something, especially the ones that aren't

| Name: | His Grace Commander Sir Samuel Vimes |
|---|---|
| Location: | Ankh-Morpork, The Discworld |
Holder of Badge No. 177.
Born on Cockbill Street, a part of Ankh-Morpork below the Shades that was so poor there wasn't any crime, Samuel Vimes was the son of a copper, who was the son of a copper, etc., etc. Sam was part of a street gang with Lupine Wonse (later secretary to Lord Vetinari) and at school was blackboard monitor for a whole term once.
Joining the Ankh-Morpork City Watch at the ripe, young age of sixteen, Sam rose in the ranks to eventually become captain of the disliked and ridiculed Night Watch. As the power of the Watch dwindled, and the city on the riverblue brown was under control of the powerful Thieves Guild (among other crime guilds), Sam sank into a deep depression and became an alcoholic. After nearly drunking himself to death, a young man raised by dwarves, who-may-have-possibly-be-the rightful-king-of-Ankh-Morpork-though-he'd-rather-be-a-copper came and filled the Watch with a new vigour, so that they went out and prodded major buttock. Before Carrot Ironfounderson, police work in the Night Watch consisted of chasing criminals around two blocks and then stopping to catch your breath and have a smoke out of the wind.
It was during this time that Sam met and fell for the formiddable aristocrat and swamp dragonnut enthusiast, Lady Sybil Ramkin, who married and later bore him a son (also named Sam), and managed to sober up.
Over the years, the watch has grown into quite a crime-fighting force, taking in recruits from nearly every species: trolls, werewolves, even a golem. And where they were once unable to find their arses with a map, they are now still unable to find their arses with a map, but can take out some of the most dangerous criminals around.
"Old Stoneface," as he's called, is now Commander to the Watch, and to his undying horror is also a Duke and something of a politician, even if he is still a copper at heart. While you would think that his worst enemy would be a criminal, the bottle, or even his paperwork, Vimes would like to assure you that it is the frilly tights he has to wear for diplomatic purposes.
*****
Vimes is your typical grizzled cop type, about average to tall height, with intense eyes. He is always crumpled-looking. Everything about him seems ruffled and crumpled, his clothes, his demeanor, even his breastplate, if possible. He is never found anywhere without his sword, cudgel (his whacking stick), his silver cigar case (given to him by his beloved wife Sybil), and a lit cigar hanging from his mouth.

This character belongs to Terry Pratchett, author of the Discworld novels, not to me. It's being used for the community . It's only for fun. Icon was drawn by the amazing Josh Kirby, one of the official artists for the novels.
